LUIS VILLARREAL

STAFF PIANIST

Originally from Monterrey, Luis Villarreal began playing the piano at the age of 8 old. In 2008 he entered the Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey, where he was a student of teachers Nargiza Kamilova, Gerardo González (†) and Adolfo Nava, graduating with honors in 2020.

 

In 2019, he obtained 3rd place in the Esperanza Cabrera National Competition. In that same year, he won the award for the best interpretation of the obligatory work in the Angelica Morales National Competition. In 2018 he got 2nd place in the sixth category of the Parnassós National Young Pianists Competition, as well as the special prize for the interpretation of a Mexican play. In 2017, he won 2nd place in the National Piano Competition "Claudio Herrera”, in the major category, in addition to the prize for the execution of the work mandatory. In 2016, he won 3rd place in the International Competition for Distance of Musical Theoretical Disciplines, in the category of Harmony.

 

He has taken piano master classes with teachers Jorge Federico Osorio, Vitaly Pisarenko, Sofya Gulyak, Leonel Morales, Luca Chiantore, among others. In 2016 he took part in the International Summer School of the Conservatory Tchaikovsky of Moscow, with the pianist Irina Plotnikova. has acted as solo pianist with orchestra performing works by composers such as Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Gershwin.

 

Recently, he has acted as assistant musical director, vocal, and repetiteur, in productions of Musical Theater of the Tecnológico de Monterrey. Since 2019 and to date, he is a pianist with the Tec de Monterrey Choir, where he has participated in various events and festivals. Additionally, in 2021 he obtained the title of Civil Engineer from ITESM, also obtaining the CENEVAL National Award for Excellence, for his outstanding career in his engineering studies.
